Here's a quick overview of some current trends in the field you should be aware of before taking on any plumbing work.

• Smart fixtures: As younger generations become homeowners, there is an increasing demand for smart technology all over the house, including with plumbing fixtures. Some examples include smart water heaters, Bluetooth showerheads and touchless digital faucets, much like those you'd often see in public bathrooms, which help reduce water flow. There are also water-conserving smart toilets with lights or seat warmers, and other touchless fixtures.
   
• Tankless water heaters: If you have a water heater tank reaching the end of its lifespan, you might opt instead for a tankless model when it comes time to make the replacement.
