Plumbing Things To Check Before You Leave For Vacation
With things starting to return to a more normal, many of us are starting to plan some vacation time. While we can’t help you with what to see or do, we can offer you some tips about what to remember before heading out – plumbing wise. The PipeMaster Checklist includes:
1. Main Water Shut-off
Turn off your water supply to ensure you do not return home to a flood in the event of a broken, frozen pipe. Going hand in hand with this to also shut off your hot water, gas or electric so they don’t damage themselves in case of a leak. If you are having someone house sit and you have turned the main water off, be sure to let them know
2. Water Connected Appliances
Check that all of your plumbing fixtures and appliances that use water, such as your fridge, are all working properly.
3. Outdoor Hoses & Connections
Another important plumbing fixture to shut off and drain. Any exterior hose bibs should be turned off to avoid any surprises.
4. Sump Pump
If your home has a sump pump in the basement, it’s important to test that your sump pump is operational before leaving. One downpour or storm and you could come home to a flood.
Hopefully, this plumbing checklist will help you enjoy your vacation and everything at home will be okay.
